I’m always right!

Posted on May 16, 2008

“When the basis for being a Christian is your specific set of beliefs about God, the most important thing is being right.”-Jim Palmer (no, not the golfer)

This is a quote that I came across while rereading through Jim Palmer’ book Wide Open Spaces (When I’m strapped for cash I reread old books instead of just buying new ones). I often feel and know that I have this inherent desire to always be right. Even though I secretly want to be proven wrong I still want to be right. It’s one of my greatest struggles as a Christian and believer in Christ.

Often I feel like I come across as a total ass, making the other person feel less-than or inadequate in some way. Its like watching a train wreck in slow motion, you inevitably know the outcome and in a way its hard to watch, but you just keep looking to see what happens. Its like I know what I’m doing but I can’t stop it, I can see the hurt balling up in the other persons eyes (the unfortunate person that has made the mistake of engaging me in conversation only to become my next ego booster.) but I just keep going. Stupid right?

And it’s just that, stupid. The more I discover who Jesus was the more I learn that being right is not the point. If everyone is right then everyone is wrong at the same time. Sometimes I feel like being right is where I find my self worth, my comfort zone, its the security blanket that I wrap myself in. But do I really want my self worth to be in something that only makes me feel good about myself and others less than… I think not.

Georgia wrap up

Posted on May 1, 2008

Georgia was great and I love hanging out with my friend Chad, he is one of the most genuine and inspiring people I know. Some how every time I get to hang out with him (despite how short it is) I walk away a little more inspired and dedicated to what I am doing with art and design. You see, Chad only does what he really believes in and what he really loves. He might not tell you that vocally but you can hear it in his voice when he talks about P is for Panda and artist like Mark Penxa, about the church that he attends and the bands that he loves to listen to. Hearing and seeing how someone can live there life so others centered, without wanting any kind of pat on the back or recognition is really amazing and I am really glad I get to be friends with Chad, he is truly inspiring.

this is the Chad…

Hang’n with the chad

Posted on April 16, 2008

Yesterday I decided to hitch a ride to Georgia with my friend Amber and hang with my friend Chad Pearsons for the day. Chad is a long time friend from California that now resides in the ATL, he owns and runs a company called P is for Panda. They do a lot of great stuff with T-shirts and independent artists, check them out if you get a chance. Currently I’m sitting in Chad’s office which doubled as my bed room last night, and we just got done looking at some of the new stuff P is doing along with a sweet art package that Mark Penxa sent him as a gift. Mark is a great artist that has a really well developed style, his figure drawing just blows my mind some times. We will probably spend most of our time today down town doing a lot of touristy stuff and taking lots of pictures, good thing I brought my camera. I’ll upload some pictures later when I get back to Nashville.

Last couple of weeks

Posted on April 9, 2008

Well its official, I suck at updating things. The last couple of weeks have seemed to go by so fast, summer is fast approaching and I’m looking forward to spending my first hot and humid summer in Nashville. Here is a little bit of what has been going on…

Media Kamp Launched our new website, its pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

I got a chance to shoot my good buddy Micheal Harrell, Ethan and John while they where recording Micheal’s new EP, I’ve never really shot in a studio before and it was real fun…

my good buddy Ethan Luck became the new drummer for RelientK, make sure to check out for him on this summers WarpTour. They played his first show here in Nashville so I went with my camera in tow. Our friends the Holland brothers opened for them…

Another local band called Mean Tambourines played after, they were legit…

RelientK followed but unfortunately it got real packed in there and was confined to one spot for the rest of the night, which means I got some great photos of Jon Schneck and… thats about it.

The show was real good and Ethan did a great job. Well that is for no, I’m going to try real hard to keep this blog more up to date. Cheers!
